Quotes, prices and paperwork
All of this is what you’d be told on the phone. None of it changes later in the job.
Yes, and nothing is attached to it. We come and look at the roof, tell you what we found, and send a written quote with the work, the materials and the guarantee on it. If you want to take it to someone else to compare, do — most people should.
Usually within a few days, and the same week for anything actively leaking. We’re in Westbury and most of our work sits inside half an hour of the yard, so looking at a roof doesn’t need booking weeks ahead. Leith rings back the same day.
No. There’s no charge to come out, get up there and tell you what’s wrong. If you want it fixed while we’re there and it’s a small job, we’ll tell you what it costs before we start — nothing gets done off the back of a nod.
Yes. Storm damage, impact damage and escape of water are regular work for us. We’ll quote in the format your insurer asks for, send photographs of the damage, and talk to the loss adjuster directly if they want to query any of it.
On repairs, afterwards, once you’ve seen the work. On larger jobs where we’re ordering materials — slate, standing seam, membranes — we ask for the material cost up front and the balance on completion. Either way it’s written on the quote, and we don’t ask for cash.
The work itself
Written for a domestic roof in Wiltshire. A church, a barn or a commercial flat roof is a different conversation — ask.
A repair is a day or two. A domestic re-roof in tile or slate is usually one to two weeks including the strip-out and the scaffold; a flat roof three to five days; a dormer or porch in standing seam two to three. Your quote gives a number of days, not “a few weeks”.
Anything beyond a small repair needs it — working at height off a ladder is neither safe nor legal for that kind of work. It’s in the quoted price and we book it, so you don’t get a separate bill from a scaffolder afterwards.
A stripped roof never gets left open overnight — it’s sheeted and made watertight before we leave. If the forecast is bad we won’t strip that day at all, and we’ll say so rather than gamble with your ceilings. Lead welding and standing seam folding stop in high wind too.
Usually. Reclaimed Welsh slate and second-hand clay tile are both available when the pattern matters — which it does in a conservation area or on anything listed. If an exact match isn’t possible we’ll tell you before you commit, and show you what the nearest one looks like.
