LH Roofing is one roofer

I started in 2007, eighteen years old and labouring for a firm out of Trowbridge — carrying slate up ladders and stripping felt off flat roofs in August. I stayed nine years. In that time I did most things a roof can ask for: tile and slate, lead, flat roofing, fascias and guttering, and enough full re-roofs to know what a bad one looks like from the ground.

Setting up on my own in 2016 wasn’t much of a business plan. It was a decision about how I wanted to work. I’d seen jobs quoted by a salesman who never went near the roof, and then been sent to put them right. I wanted to be the one who looked at it, the one who priced it, and the one standing there if it went wrong.

I price what I’ve stood on. Nobody here quotes a roof off a photograph.

So that’s how it works now. You ring and I answer, or I ring you back the same day. I come and look properly — up a ladder or on the scaffold, not from the pavement — and I tell you what I found, with photos if you can’t get up there yourself. Then you get a written quote with the work, the materials and the guarantee on it. If the job wants scaffolding, that’s on the quote too, not added afterwards.

Most of what I do is repairs: leaks, slipped slates, split lead valleys, ridges that have let go in a gale. Those are day or two-day jobs, and they’re usually the ones people are most anxious about, because water is already coming in. The rest is replacement work — full re-roofs in tile and slate, flat roofs, and the specialist end of it: standing seam, cedar shingles, green roofs, and lead welded on site rather than sealed with mastic.

I work across Wiltshire and over the Somerset border — Westbury, Trowbridge, Frome, Warminster, Bradford-on-Avon, Bath, Devizes, Salisbury and the villages between them. Most days I’m within half an hour of the yard, which matters more than it sounds: if something isn’t right after I’ve left, I can be back this week.

You won’t find any badges on this site, and that’s deliberate — I’m not paying a scheme to vouch for me.
